Performer Biography
Barnaby Robson, the clarinetist on this album, was the principal clarinet of the Philharmonia Orchestra from 2000-2013 and currently holds the same position with the English National Opera Orchestra.
Recording & Production
For Poulenc's Sonata for Two Clarinets, Barnaby Robson used overdub studio techniques to play both parts himself, but without a click track to allow for flexible tempi.
Compositional Technique
Steve Reich's New York Counterpoint is scored for eight pre-recorded clarinets and two bass clarinets, with a further clarinet playing live as a soloist.

Herbert Howells composed his Clarinet Sonata between August and December 1946, after his Oboe Sonata was rejected for being too long and technically challenging.
