The original DIEM studio used an Otari MTR 90 24-track analog tape machine, which was the size of an industrial washing machine and could rip off a finger if mishandled.

DIEM, the Danish national electronic music studio where these works were produced, was established in Aarhus in 1986, rather than the more obvious choice of Copenhagen.

In 2001, DIEM was almost closed due to government budget cuts but was reconstructed as part of the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus.
