Composition History
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach likely composed his Magnificat in 1749 as a 'calling card' to succeed his ailing father, Johann Sebastian Bach, as Leipzig Thomaskantor.
Compositional Technique
Johann Sebastian Bach revised his Magnificat, transposing it from E flat to D major, a much easier key for the trumpets, and replacing recorders with flutes.
