1/7Recording & Production
The album is dedicated to the memory of Peter Reynolds (1958-2016), a composer who contributed new miniatures to the project but passed away before its release.
Album & Artwork
This album features world premiere recordings of British piano miniatures, tracing a century of evocative and descriptive works.
Recording & Production
Peter Reynolds' (1958-2016) piece, Cippyn, breaks new ground by including electronic effects and sounds from inside the piano, which could only be realized through recording and overdubbing.
Compositional Technique
Howard Skempton's (b. 1947) miniatures, Quavers and Intermezzo, display remarkable economy of means; Quavers uses only four chord types throughout.
Performer Biography
Duncan Honeybourne, the pianist, has a diverse career as a pianist, writer, and educator, and is known for his extensive knowledge of neglected English music.
Composer Biography
Leo Livens (1896-1990) and Evangeline Livens (1898-1983), sibling composers, both had promising careers cut short by mental illness and spent decades in a psychiatric hospital.
Recording & Production
The album was recorded in August 2015 at The National Centre for Early Music, St Margaret's Church, York, UK.
