The album title, "Neue Wege - A New Path," is inspired by Beethoven's declaration to a friend in 1803 about embarking on a new musical path.
Composer's Artistic Vision
The album brings together works by Haydn, Beethoven, and Prokofiev, all created during experimental phases in their musical journeys.
Critical Reception
Prokofiev's 5th Sonata was initially dismissed in the Soviet Union as one of his worst compositions, tainted by Western influence, and rarely performed.
Performer Biography
Gabiz Reichert, the pianist on this album, was born in Winterthur, Switzerland in 1994 and has won prizes at national and international competitions.
Composer Biography
Beethoven, at the time of composing the Sonata Op. 26, was dissatisfied with his previous work and was being compared to masters like Mozart and Haydn.
Composition History
Prokofiev's 5th Sonata was revised by the composer almost thirty years after its initial creation, shortly before his death, under a new opus number.
