This album is the last CD featuring the Ebony Band, which gave over 200 concerts and released 15 CDs in 32 years.

Composer Biography

Mátyás Seiber, a pupil of Zoltán Kodály, became familiar with Blues, Rumba, and Tango while traveling as a cellist and later headed the first jazz department at the Frankfurt Conservatory.

Wilhelm Grosz, the composer of "Achtung, Aufnahme!!", was a versatile musician who wrote operettas, operas, film music, cabaret, and symphonies, and had hits like "Harbour Lights" and "Red Sails in the Sunset" under the pseudonym Hugh Williams.

Performer Biography

Werner Herbers, the conductor on this album, was the solo oboist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra for 35 years.

All the pieces on this CD were written around 1930 and have never before appeared on a sound carrier, having rarely been heard live.
