Despite his historical significance as a leading musical personality of the mid-17th century, Johann Rudolf Ahle is virtually unknown today, and this CD is likely the first ever dedicated to his work.

Ahle was not an exponent of a learned musical style but, like Hammerschmidt, composed folk-style, song-like music, which gained significant importance due to its widespread impact.
