Composition History
Fesca's six piano trios, published between 1840 and 1848, were central to his output and the only chamber music genre he continuously composed during his short career.
Composer Biography
Fesca studied music theory with Gottlob Wiedebein (1779-1854), a court music director in Braunschweig, and later at the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin.
Critical Reception
Fesca was primarily known to his contemporaries as a composer of art songs, with around 60 lieder published during his lifetime and performed across Central Europe.

Fesca's musical talent was recognized early; at age 11, he made his public debut and received a scholarship for further education from Sophie of Baden (1801-1865), the sovereign.
Compositional Technique
In his piano trios, Fesca strictly adhered to the classical four-movement structure (fast, slow, scherzo, finale) but developed individual formal structures within this framework.
Performer Biography
The Paian Trio (formerly Arion) was founded in 2002 and is known for its broad repertoire, ranging from Viennese classics to modern masterpieces, and for playing works by rarely heard composers.
