This album is part of an ongoing project to record all five of Hugo Alfvén's symphonies with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin for the cpo label.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Alfvén considered the sea to be one of his most powerful sources of inspiration, stating that his best ideas came to him during stormy sailing trips.
Compositional Technique
The Dalarapsodi, one of Alfvén's three Swedish Rhapsodies, features a soprano saxophone solo at its beginning, symbolizing solitude, a motif Alfvén heard from a cowherdess.
Performer Biography
Łukasz Borowicz, the conductor on this album, has received numerous awards for his over 100 recordings, including four Diapason d'Or prizes.
