Hugo Alfvén, born in Stockholm in 1872, is considered one of Sweden's most significant composers after Berwald.
Compositional Technique
For the film score of Synnøve Solbakken, Hugo Alfvén re-used music from his ballet-pantomime Bergakungen and incorporated Norwegian folk-tunes.
Performer Biography
The Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1912, is known for its extensive international touring and CD catalogue, placing Norrköping on the world map.
Recording & Production
This album was recorded in the De Geer Hall in Norrköping, Sweden, which is considered by many to be Sweden's most beautiful concert house.
Critical Reception
For both films, Synnøve Solbakken and En Bygdesaga, Alfvén's music was judged to be one of the few positive aspects of the overall productions.
Composition History
Alfvén contributed music to three feature films during the 1930s and 1940s, despite his period of greatest success predating the 'golden age' of Swedish cinema.
