Fikret Amirov was the first Azerbaijani composer to fuse classical and native music in symphonic mugams, creating a new symphonic genre.
Compositional Technique
A strong influence on Amirov's music is mugam, a highly improvisatory form of Azerbaijani art music that UNESCO recognized as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Performer Biography
Dmitry Yablonsky, the conductor, comes from a musical family; his mother is pianist Oxana Yablonskaya, and his father, Albert Zaionz, was principal oboist in the Moscow Radio and Television Orchestra.
Recording & Production
The Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, which draws musicians from Russia's most famous orchestras, was originally formed as a recording ensemble and won a Gramophone Prize in 2006.
