Lionel Daunais (1901-1982) was a unique Canadian artist, simultaneously a singer-songwriter, artistic director, stage director, actor, and radio host.

Upon returning to Canada in 1930, Daunais founded the Trio lyrique, for which he wrote numerous fanciful, folkish songs that brought the group success.

In 1936, Daunais co-founded Les Variétés lyriques, where he sang in 813 performances of operas and operettas over 20 years, often also directing them.
