Franck Della Valle, the violinist on this album, was a prize winner at the International Violin Competition of Florence in 1984.
Compositional Technique
In Ivo Malec's "Attacca", percussion is used to its utmost possibilities, creating the illusion of a single new instrument when associated with magnetic tape, rather than a simple dialogue.
Performer Biography
Jean Geoffroy actively works to expand the percussion repertoire by encouraging young composers to write for the instrument.
Recording & Production
This album was conceived as a homage to Ivo Malec, with other works written by his former students, including Tanguy and Campana, at the request of the percussionist Jean Geoffroy.
Compositional Technique
Daniel Tosi's "Phonic Design" is a virtuoso piece that follows the models of Paganini and Liszt, using moving resounding objects that create a multitude of harmonic sounds beyond their tonality.
Composer's Artistic Vision
The title of Ivo Malec's concerto for solo percussion, "Attacca", can evoke sharp starts, abrupt stops, and successive facts without progression, but also power, aggression, and despair.
Performer Biography
Jean Geoffroy, the percussionist on this album, is a timpanist for the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris and a professor at the National School of Music of Marne-la-Vallée.
