Aurel Dawidiuk, the organist, is a versatile young musician who also studies orchestral conducting and piano.
Performer Biography
Aurel Dawidiuk won the German Music Competition in the organ category in 2022, a prize that had not been awarded since 2001.
Instruments
The Metzler-Klahre organ features a unique mobile console that can be rolled to any place on the stage, allowing the organist to choose their position relative to the audience or pipes.
Composition History
Johann Sebastian Bach's Fantasia et Fuga in g, BWV 542, is believed to be one of the pieces he performed when applying for the organist position at St. Jacobi Church in Hamburg in 1720.
Interpretation
Aurel Dawidiuk notes a fundamental difference between piano and organ playing: on piano, the approach to striking the note is key, while on organ, how one releases the key and grants 'endless breath' to tones is crucial.
Instruments
The organ in the Stadtcasino Basel Musiksaal, built by Metzler and Klahre, is described as an 'outstanding and pioneering instrument' in technical, sonic, and craftsmanship terms.
