Masaaki Suzuki, the director of Bach Collegium Japan, began working as a church organist at the age of twelve and studied harpsichord and organ in Amsterdam.

The texts for the inner strophes of the hymns were reworked by a poetically and theologically competent specialist, believed to be Andreas Stübel, the former deputy headmaster of the Thomasschule.
