Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was employed as a harpsichordist in the royal musical establishment of Friedrich II (Frederick the Great), King of Prussia, and had been in his service for six years by 1747.
Interpretation
Miklós Spányi, the performer on this recording, follows Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's later method of performing varied repetitions in the Sonata in G major, Wq 65/12.

Miklós Spányi, the performer, has concentrated his work as a performer and researcher on the oeuvre of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and has actively worked to revive C. P. E. Bach's favorite instrument, the clavichord.
Instruments
The clavichord used for this recording was built in 2010 by Joris Potvlieghe, based on Saxonian clavichord-building tradition and having the proportions of the largest German clavichords of the late 18th century.

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's solo keyboard sonatas from the 1740s reflect his efforts to combine, reconcile, or replace the styles he learned from his father's generation with the galant fashions he encountered in the service of King Friedrich II of Prussia.
Composition History
Two of the five sonatas on this album were published in anthologies in the early 1760s, responding to the demand from a growing number of keyboard players in Germany and other European countries.
