1/7Interpretation
The concerts feature conductor Rudolf Lutz and theologian Karl Graf introducing the cantata in a lively dialogue, with Lutz demonstrating musical hallmarks and inviting the audience to sing along with the chorales.
Recording & Production
The J.S. Bach Foundation of St. Gallen, which funds this project, aims to re-interpret Bach's complete vocal works, including over 200 cantatas, in a concert cycle spanning approximately 25 years.
Recording & Production
All concerts by the Bach Foundation are documented on DVD, and several cantata recordings are released annually on CD, with the 'reflection' lecture texts published as a 'Bach Anthology' in book form.
Interpretation
During the concerts, the cantata is performed twice, with a 'reflection' lecture by personalities from art, culture, economics, and politics taking place in between the performances.
Recording & Production
Since October 2006, the Bach Foundation has performed one cantata per month in the baroque church of Trogen, an Appenzell village near St Gallen, Switzerland.
Interpretation
Rudolf Lutz, the artistic director, aims for a 'living Bach experience' based on historical knowledge, drawing on his deep understanding of baroque music as a lecturer in improvisation at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
Interpretation
The ensemble for these performances consists primarily of young musicians from Switzerland, Southern Germany, and Austria, who have experience in historical performance practice, with the size varying according to the work.
