Erik Satie knew Debussy, Ravel, and Poulenc; he met Debussy and Ravel in the Montmartre café-concert scene and mentored Poulenc.
Compositional Technique
Ravel aimed to explore the "basic incompatibility of violin and piano" in his Violin Sonata No. 2, viewing the string instrument as suited for sustained lines and the piano as a percussion instrument.
