Vicens Prats, the flautist on this recording, has been the principal flautist of the Orchestre de Paris since 1991 and conducts courses at the Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona.

Bechara El-Khoury, the composer, was born in Beirut in 1957 and moved to Paris in 1979 to continue his musical studies.

The work Espaces-Fragmentations was commissioned by Radio France as part of a complete Beethoven symphony cycle, with composers asked to write a piece using the same instrumentation as one of Beethoven's symphonies.

Poème nocturne, Op. 80, was commissioned by the Orchestre de Paris to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the death of the internationally renowned French flautist Jean-Pierre Rampal.
Compositional Technique
In Poème nocturne, the traditional roles of soloist and orchestra are reversed, with the cadenza given to the orchestra rather than the virtuoso flautist.
