Composer Biography

Franz Liszt, the transcriber of these Beethoven symphonies, was the son of Adam Liszt, a steward for Haydn's former patrons, the Esterházy Princes.

Composition History

Liszt's transcriptions of Beethoven's symphonies were revised and completed between 1863 and 1865 at the urging of the publisher Breitkopf and Härtel.
