Instruments

The fortepiano for the Fourth Concerto is a copy of a Jacob Bertsche piano (circa 1815) with a wider compass and six foot pedals, including 'turkish music' and 'bassoon' effects that Beethoven disliked.

Interpretation

The recording uses different temperaments for each concerto: Kirnberger III for the Fourth Concerto and Young for the Third Concerto, reflecting Beethoven's known preferences.

Instruments

The fortepiano used for the Third Concerto is a copy of a Michael Rosenberger instrument from Vienna (circa 1806), featuring knee-lever pedals and a special sound.
