Rémy Ballot, the conductor, is the last student of Sergiù Celibidache, a renowned conductor whom he met at the age of 16.
Compositional Technique
Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 135 originally had three movements, but a Parisian publisher's pressure led him to add a fourth, which he called 'A sweet song of rest or peace'.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Beethoven sought a new musical language to express humanity's big questions, believing that great truths were conveyed in code, to be understood by those who could understand.
Interpretation
The KLANGKOLLEKTIV WIEN, co-founded by conductor Rémy Ballot and Vienna Philharmonic clarinetist Norbert Täubl, aims to interpret works in unorthodox ways, redefining their artistic approach.
Recording & Production
This recording was made under extraordinary circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a reduced ensemble of 16 strings, in a brief respite between lockdowns.
Composer Biography
From 1818 onwards, Beethoven's hearing loss became almost complete, leading him to turn more towards an inner, spiritual world and study composers like Bach and Palestrina.
