Mariss Jansons studied violin, piano, and conducting at the Leningrad Conservatory and completed his education with Hans Swarowsky in Vienna and Herbert von Karajan in Salzburg.

The rehearsal segments on this album were recorded in Munich at the Herkulessaal der Residenz between May 14-18, 2012.
