This album features digitally remastered recordings from the original SWR tapes, preserving the historical performances of Christian Ferras.
Christian Ferras, a child prodigy from the French provinces, became Herbert von Karajan's favorite violinist at the height of his fame.
Christian Ferras and pianist Pierre Barbizet formed a close-knit duo, with Barbizet noting that Ferras intuitively sensed what he would do next.
Ferras considered himself a student of George Enescu, an outstanding musician of the 20th century, who influenced his music more than anyone else.
The recordings by the duo Ferras-Barbizet in this collection are considered among the most important musical documents of their era.
Christian Ferras's individuality as a violinist was characterized by incredible flexibility, spontaneity, and versatility of style and expression.
Ferras's last decade was marked by artistic decline due to depression and alcoholism, leading him to withdraw from the stage.
