Beethoven's Violin Concerto is dedicated to Franz Clement, the 26-year-old concertmaster at Vienna's Theater an der Wien, whom Beethoven had prophesied would become "one of the greatest of artists."

Beethoven composed his only Violin Concerto, apart from a fragment from his Bonn years, within a few weeks in autumn 1806.

This recording of Beethoven's Violin Concerto is the first from both violinist Daniel Lozakovich and conductor Valery Gergiev, and also Deutsche Grammophon's first video release of the piece.

Daniel Lozakovich, the violinist, and Valery Gergiev, the conductor, first performed Beethoven's Violin Concerto together at the 15th Easter Festival in Moscow in 2015, which was broadcast on national television.
