Composer Biography
The work is dedicated to the memory of the composer's father, Dr. Donald Sheehan, who was a Ph.D. in English Literature, an executive director of The Frost Place, and a translator of the Septuagint Greek Psalter.
Compositional Technique
The entire score of Benedict Sheehan's Liturgy is constructed around a single pentatonic motif, introduced in the opening 'Amen' and recurring throughout the work.

Benedict Sheehan's Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom was commissioned by the Patriarch Tikhon Russian-American Music Institute™ (PaTRAM Institute™) at the end of 2015.

The Saint Tikhon Choir, founded in 2015 by Benedict Sheehan and Abbot Sergius of St. Tikhon's Monastery, is the first professional vocal ensemble connected with an Orthodox monastery in America.
