Composition History

Bruno Maderna's Serenata per un Satellite (1969) is dedicated to Umberto Montalenti, director of the European Space Research Operational Centre in Darmstadt, which launched the "Boreas" satellite.

Compositional Technique

Maderna's Serenata per un Satellite is written on a single sheet with straight, crooked, isolated, or crossed staves, possibly depicting the capricious trajectories of a satellite.

Composer's Artistic Vision

Bruno Maderna had a strong passion for the oboe, which was encouraged by the great oboist Lothar Faber.

Compositional Technique

Maderna's Serenata per un Satellite allows for flexible performance, with a duration of 4 to 12 minutes, and instruments playing together, separately, or in groups, while improvising with the written notes.

Recording & Production

The recordings on this album feature students from three Italian Conservatories (Genoa, Alessandria, and La Spezia) performing works by Bruno Maderna and Luciano Berio.

Recording & Production

This album is a "Homage to Maderna" project, developed by Antonio Plotino, a flautist and conductor, in the 20th anniversary of Bruno Maderna's death in 1993.
