Bigaglia's extensive church works were unexpectedly discovered in 1975 at Kremsmünster Abbey, one of Austria's largest monastic music archives.

Composer Biography

Diogenio Bigaglia, a Benedictine monk, lived and worked in the monastery of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, where he became prior of the monastery convent in 1713.

Critical Reception

Bigaglia's Miserere, once mistakenly attributed to Pergolesi, was highlighted in the Kremsmünster monastery chronicle of 1777 as 'developed with incomparable artistic pureness'.
