Mel Bonis's parents forced her to abandon her studies at the Conservatoire and marry an industrialist, Albert Domange, when she fell in love with a fellow student.

Composer's Artistic Vision

Mel Bonis composed for the flute throughout her career, despite little demand for chamber music in France at the time, finding encouragement from flutist Louis Fleury.

Album & Artwork

The album cover features Camille Claudel's sculpture 'La Joueuse de Flûte' (The Flute Player), chosen because Claudel and Bonis shared similar life experiences as female artists.

Composer Biography

Mel Bonis did not return to composing until the early 20th century, after dedicating herself to her family, which included five stepsons and four of her own children.
