Antônio Francisco Braga, the composer, was orphaned at age eight and began his musical studies in a home for abandoned children.

Notable Performances
Jupyra, the opera on this album, had its world premiere in Rio de Janeiro on October 7, 1900, after Braga received an invitation from the Committee of the Fourth Centenary of the Discovery of Brazil.
