The great violinist Pablo de Sarasate refused to include Brahms' Violin Concerto in his repertoire because he disliked the prominent role of the oboe in the Adagio movement.
Composition History
Brahms' Violin Concerto was composed a few months after Goldmark's, on the banks of the Wörthersee, where Brahms also composed his Symphony No. 2 in 1877.
