This album is part of a larger project to record all of Brahms's chamber music with the same musicians, a feat some initially deemed impossible.
Composition History
Brahms's Piano Quartet in C minor, Op. 60, is closely linked to Goethe's novel "The Sorrows of Young Werther," with Brahms even suggesting cover art depicting a head with a pistol.
Recording & Production
This recording was made at the Maladrerie Saint-Lazare de Beauvais, a 12th-13th century architectural complex with a barn that offers exceptional acoustics due to its 13th-century wooden framework.
