Gil Sharon, a violist on this recording, won first prize in the International Emily Anderson Violin Competition in London in 1971 and was honored with the Dutch Royal Award Knight of the Order of Orange Nassau in 1997.

Bruckner composed the Intermezzo in D minor as a replacement for the Scherzo of the String Quintet, after Joseph Hellmesberger found the original too challenging.
