Anton Bruckner, born in Ansfelden, Austria, initially followed his father's footsteps as a schoolmaster and church organist.

Performer Biography

Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the conductor on this album, became the Music Director of The Philadelphia Orchestra in 2012 and is set to become the third Music Director of the Metropolitan Opera in 2020/2021.

Recording & Production

This album was produced by Johanne Goyette, with sound engineering by Carlos Prieto, Carl Talbot, and François Goupil, and recorded in Montreal and Laval.

Composition History

Bruckner composed a total of 11 symphonies, but due to his severe self-criticism, he withdrew two of them, now known as Symphony No. 00 and Symphony No. 0.

Bruckner was 37 when he began studying at the Vienna Conservatory in 1861, and his exposure to Wagner's music there profoundly influenced his symphonic style.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin has received numerous honors, including Musical America's Artist of the Year in 2016 and several honorary doctorates.
