Bruckner dedicated his Ninth Symphony 'to the beloved God', following dedications of his Seventh Symphony to King Ludwig II of Bavaria and his Eighth to Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria.

Performer Biography
Mariss Jansons, the chief conductor on this album, was born in Riga, Latvia, and studied violin, piano, and orchestral conducting in Leningrad (now St Petersburg).
Composition History
Bruckner's Ninth Symphony remained unfinished, and he considered his 1884 Te Deum as a possible replacement for the missing finale.
