The recordings for this album were made in September 1988, and January and February 1989 at the refectory of the Stavelot Abbey for Bruhns' works, and in September 1990 at Saint-Apollinaire church in Bolland for Busbetzky's work.

Ludwig Busbetzky, whose cantata 'Erbarm dich' is also featured, was another pupil of Dieterich Buxtehude, and his identity was only recently documented in Gilles Cantagrel's study of Buxtehude.
