Ferruccio Busoni, the composer, was born in Italy in 1866 to a clarinettist father and a pianist mother, and made his piano debut at age eight.

Busoni composed almost no chamber music in his maturity, with most works of this type, including those featuring clarinet, appearing between his twelfth and 24th years.

Busoni considered his Second Violin Sonata, composed in 1898, his real 'Op. 1' because he felt he had found his true voice in it.

Performer Biography

Joseph Lin, the violinist on this recording, won First Prize at the Concert Artists Guild International Competition in 1996 at age seventeen and was named a Presidential Scholar in the Arts.
