The cover image for the album, 'Tools of the Trade,' was originally taken by Rob Shenk and reworked by Denise Burt, who also handled the album design.
The album was recorded at Oberlin Conservatory's Clonick Hall in Oberlin, Ohio, across several dates in 2015 and 2016.
The album 'Carve' was supported by New Music USA, an organization that champions new music.
The album features Dana Jessen, a bassoonist, as the producer, and each composer also co-produced, edited, and mixed their own works.
