Did you know?
1/7Recording & Production
This album, Aimo Pagin's second solo album, features all of Chopin's waltzes and was recorded entirely on a Bösendorfer piano.
Composer Biography
Frédéric Chopin, the composer, was described by Claude Debussy as a 'man of generous ideas' and by Erik Satie as a 'prodigious creator'.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Chopin dedicated almost all his work to the piano, preferring its delicate tonality over the 'hubbub' of an orchestra, and identified completely with the instrument.
Performer Biography
Aimo Pagin became a Bösendorfer artist in May 2019, joining other famous musicians such as André Prévin, Leonard Bernstein, and Andras Schiff.
Performer Biography
Aimo Pagin, the pianist on this album, was born in 1983 into a family of musicians and studied with renowned teachers including Leon Fleisher.
Instruments
Chopin preferred Pleyel pianos for their crystalline and slightly muffled tone, which he found responded best to his soft touch, calling them 'nec plus ultra'.
Compositional Technique
Chopin's waltzes are more like poems than dance pieces, and he managed to transcend the waltz form, which had already matured in the Viennese genre.
