Critical Reception
Chopin's songs were largely unknown outside of Poland until 1857, when Juliusz Fontana managed to publish 17 of them in Berlin.
Historical Context
Juliusz Fontana, a friend of Chopin, collected and reconstructed copies of Chopin's songs after the composer's death, as Chopin himself never wrote them down for publication.
Interpretation
The performers used the National Edition of Chopin's Works, edited by Jan Ekier, for this recording.
