Thomas Gabriel's objective in arranging these pieces is to translate the music into a new, modern, and more understandable language, adding orchestral layers to clarify the song's message.

Performer Biography

The Mainzer Domchor, a boys' choir, is the oldest ensemble of the Musica Sacra at Mainz Cathedral, celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2016 and comprising around 200 young singers.

Domkapellmeister Karsten Storck, who directs the Mainzer Domchor and Domkantorei St. Martin, is also an honorary professor at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and an organ expert for the Diocese of Mainz.

The Mädchenchor am Dom und St. Quintin, a girls' choir directed by Michael Kaltenbach, was founded in 1994 and has grown to include about 140 soprano and alto voices.

Interpretation

The album features new arrangements of traditional Advent and Christmas carols, with instrumental accompaniments by Thomas Gabriel, a church musician, composer, and arranger.
