The tradition of polyphonic music, including instruments alongside singing, at the Horb Stiftskirche dates back to May 29, 1484, with the founding of the Horb Stiftskantorei.

The current organ in the Horb Stiftskirche was originally built for the Rottweil Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche, with construction starting in 1722 by Christoph Albrecht and completed in 1727 by Andreas Schuster.

In 1851, the world-renowned organ builder Eberhard Friedrich Walcker expanded the Horb Stiftskirche organ to 31 registers and incorporated his 'newest invention,' the much-praised swell mechanism.

The current Tilman Trefz organ, built in 2013/15, is designed in a Baroque style with 34 registers distributed across two manuals and pedal, and uses purely mechanical action.
Performer Biography
Kirsten Sturm, the organist on this album, was appointed Stiftsorganistin at Heilig Kreuz in Horb am Neckar in January 2019 and performed the complete organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach there in 2022.
Instruments
The organ in the Horb Stiftskirche features a magnificent Baroque facade with singing putti, musical angels, and King David playing a harp.
