Today, Pachelbel is primarily known as an organ master, with his keyboard works widely used in lessons and church worship, though his chamber music 'Canon and Gigue' has also become popular.

In 1677, Pachelbel was appointed organist at the court in Eisenach, where he connected with Johann Christoph Bach and Johann Ambrosius Bach, father of Johann Sebastian Bach.
