Composer's Artistic Vision
Kreutzer aimed to strike a middle ground between the styles of Weber and Rossini in his music for Der Taucher, a tactically wise approach after the controversial premiere of Weber's Euryanthe.
Composition History
Kreutzer's opera, Der Taucher (The Diver), is based on Friedrich Schiller's ballad of the same name, but unlike Schubert, Kreutzer did not set Schiller's original poem in its entirety.
