Guido Santórsola, a prolific Italian-Uruguayan composer, began composing sonatas for and with guitars in 1970, after dedicating himself to conducting, teaching, and composing.
Composer's Artistic Vision
The composers on this album are described as cosmopolitans, driven by an insatiable need to explore the unknown and discover what is different, a characteristic typical of the "Sur" (South).
Album & Artwork
The album's title, "Continuidad y deformación," is also the title of a piece by Eduardo Flores Abad, inspired by the unorientable Möbius strip, which is featured on the CD cover.
Compositional Technique
One piece on the album, 6 x 1 en 6 by Mario Gómez-Vignes, requires the first two guitar strings to be detuned to F and C, and even uses a coin at one point, highlighting its experimental nature.
Compositional Technique
Santórsola's Sonata No. 3, featured on this album, incorporates dodecaphonic lyricism, chord sequences, chromatic passages, and improvisational arpeggios, alongside a mix of meditative and energetic sections.
Performer Biography
Antonio Amodeo, the guitarist on this album, has premiered works by several Latin American composers, including Guido Santorsola, Mario Gomez Vignes, and Eduardo Flores Abad.
