Ruth Crawford Seeger (1901-1953), the composer, had two careers: first as an avant-garde composer, and second as an editor and transcriber of American traditional music and a music educator.

Many of the pieces on this album, including 'Little Waltz' and 'Five Canons,' are world premiere recordings.
