This recording of "Toward a Season of Peace" is a world premiere recording, captured live and in concert in March 2012 at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, California.

Composer Biography

Richard Danielpour, the composer, was born in the U.S. but spent a year in Iran as a child, where he learned Farsi and began to understand the world.

Composition History

The world premiere of "Toward a Season of Peace" was intentionally timed to coincide with Nowruz, the Persian New Year, which is celebrated on the first day of Spring.

Compositional Technique

The composer used an English translation of Persian poet Rumi's work, rather than the original Farsi, to provide a sonic contrast to Hebrew and Arabic in the oratorio.
