Anton Reicha, a friend of Ludwig van Beethoven, is considered the 'father of the wind quintet' for his 24 wind quintets written in Paris from 1818 onwards.
Critical Reception
Despite his success during his lifetime, Franz Danzi fell into oblivion soon after his death, and his music was largely unknown until the proliferation of recordings in recent years.
Compositional Technique
Franz Danzi's nine wind quintets, composed between 1820 and 1824, consistently follow a four-movement structure: sonata form, song form, minuet (sometimes scherzo-like), and rondo finales.
