David Pohle was a student of Heinrich Schütz, a highly influential composer, who later became godfather to one of Pohle's sons.

Only a small portion of Pohle's extensive works have survived, with the majority found in libraries in Kassel, Wolfenbüttel, Berlin, and Uppsala.
