The Martinu Quartet, established in 1976 as the Havlak Quartet, changed its name in 1985 and has won numerous awards including the Yehudi Menuhin Competition and the ARD (Munich) competition.

Jan Dušek, the pianist, studied piano and composition, completed doctoral studies in Prague, and maintains dual careers as a pianist and composer, teaching composition at the Academy of Performing Arts.

David Post's Piano Quintet acknowledges the powerful musical ideas of Czech composers Viktor Ullmann, Hans Krasa, Pavel Haas, and Gideon Klein, who were imprisoned and murdered by the Nazis during World War II.

Ludmila Peterková, the clarinetist, won the title Laureate in the Prague Spring Competition in 1991 and has since been a prominent soloist in the Czech music scene.

Compositional Technique

David Post's Piano Quintet incorporates musical quotes from works by Gideon Klein, Pavel Haas, and Viktor Ullmann, including a duet from Ullmann's opera Der Kaiser von Atlantis.

David Post, the composer, started his musical training early, studying cello and composition, and later pursued further studies with Larry Bell and Lukas Foss.
